Designed by the late Bernard Namok in 1992, the flag holds deep cultural and historical significance for Torres Strait Islander people. Its elements reflect their identity: green for land, blue for sea, black for the people and white for peace. While the traditional Dhari headdress and the five-pointed star as the centre of the flag symbolise cultural heritage and the island groups.
